We’re nearing the end of March now, and it’s been great seeing so many of you getting involved in the #trypod campaign. Through social media you’ve all been screaming about your favourite podcasts, and helping to find new audiences for big and small shows alike.

And while March might almost be over, we’re definitely not finished dishing out podcast recommendations. Today we’re taking a look at some great new shows that have launched in the past few weeks, and ones that could totally be your new audio fix.

Spinal Tap Minute

Movies by minutes isn’t a new concept. In fact, there’s a website that chronicles all the podcasts dedicated to the cause. From Star Wars to Jurassic Park and The Princess Bride, it’s a growing niche genre. And the latest addition to the list is Spinal Tap Minute, from Heidi Bennett and Sean German.

This new daily podcast sees Heidi and Sean joined by a whole range of comedians, musicians and actors as they analyse the 1984 mockumentary This is Spinal Tap, one minute at a time.

Averaging around 45 minutes for each minute of the movie, it’s a lot of content for a daily podcast. But it’s a show that’s funny, maybe even a little bit insightful, and one that absolutely celebrates every second of This is Spinal Tap.

Cosmic Vertigo- ABC RN

From ABC Radio National, Cosmic Vertigo is going to be a new podcast favourite for anyone interested in the universe around us.

Hosts Dr Amanda Bauer and Dr Alan Duffy explore subjects ranging from the stuff we left on the moon, through to the origins of our solar system and what exactly makes a star a star.

Some beautifully careful sound editing combined with two charismatic and knowledgable hosts makes for a charming and smart show. It’s a perfectly succinct weekly astronomy show that we’ll definitely be coming back to.

Masquerade Podcast with Steph Young

Author Steph Young’s newest podcast made it straight onto iTunes’ New & Noteworthy list pretty much as soon as it premiered, and for good reason.

Billing itself as ‘where nightmares come to life’, Masquerade is an investigation of everything creepy. Through longform audio stories, Young delves into mysterious stories and unexplained disappearances.

While the recorded audio quality could use a little work, it’s a minor complaint for what’s set up to be an awesome new show. Incredibly well written and reminding us of Aaron Mahnke’s Lore, Masquerade is a must listen for fans of the unsettling.

A Broad Abroad

It’s rare that a podcast that boils down to ‘two people talking about nothing’ works. These days it’s almost mandatory to find an unexplored niche or angle for a successful audio product, but not always.

A Broad Abroad, from Alice Thomas and Giana Milazzo is a 21st century approach to having a pen pal. It’s just two friends, on either side of the Atlantic, chatting about everything from music tastes to their periods.

With only one episode available so far, there’s not so much we can say critically about A Broad Abroad. It’s just a sweet, cross-cultural conversation between two genuine friends, and for some reason, it works.

Missi and Zach Might Bang!

Produced by Anna Faris, Missi Pyle and Zach Selwyn present new comedy podcast Missi and Zach Might Bang!, a fast paced show combining celebrity guest interviews with improvised musical numbers.

Guests so far have included Anna Faris and Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family, The Toy Box), and despite only two episodes being available so far we think this is a show that’s gonna gain traction.

Missi and Zach Might Bang! is a loud, quick and incredibly funny new podcast. It’s no secret that Anna Faris knows what makes a good podcast, and it looks like she’s struck gold again with two great hosts in this awesome new show.
